Sources & methodology

A personal, unofficial map of 23 major projects in Saudi Arabia. The aim is to show where each one stands today, with a source and a date for every fact.

How the data was collected

  1. Official sources first. The project’s own site, the Public Investment Fund, the Saudi Press Agency and the relevant authorities.
  2. Then reputable press. For recent changes, with official statements kept apart from reports citing unnamed sources.
  3. An independent check. A reviewer checked every number, date and status against the source page itself before publication.
  4. Locations. Coordinates are approximate unless stated, and every point says what it represents.

How status is decided

Operational
Open or operating in full
Partially open
Some components open or operating, the rest still being built
Under construction
Main works under way, not yet open
Planned
Announced, no substantive construction yet
Delayed
Credible reports that the official target date has slipped
Scaled back
Credible reports that the scope has been reduced
Postponed
Officially postponed or paused

When sources conflict, the more conservative status is used and the conflict is noted.
